Viewers tuning in to Changing Rooms on Channel 4 got quite the surprise as host Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen brought the kitchen into the bedroom.

The DIY fan-favourite programme continued its long-running trend of using unique and eclectic ways of redesigning a home, and on the episode on Wednesday (7th September), the design expert got very crafty with some pasta.

Deciding to take some inspiration from Japan, Laurence started to construct a giant gong from scratch, first using MDF wood and Artex, before grabbing his next ingredient from the pantry.

Whipping out the dry pasta, Laurence then proceeded to stick said pasta onto the homemade gong to give it some pizazz.

Speaking to Milena, a guest on the show, Laurence said: “I know you’re going: ‘I can’t believe he’s sticking pasta into Artex on MDF and apparently it’s going to end up as an oriental gong. It will. It will. You trust me.

Milena quickly responded: “It’s very “primary school art project.”

It’s a thought shared by those watching at home too, with many taking to social media to share their shock, awe and laughter with the inventive home addition.

“What ten year old doesn’t want their own artex Japanese gong above the bed? With extra pasta. #changingrooms,” one fan tweeted.

Another said: “That was one of the most amusing episodes of #ChangingRooms in a while! The Japanese inspired 10 year old bedroom with a gong made of pasta, not ok!!”

A third responded: “*stamps 'Japanese pasta Artex gong' off bingo card' #ChangingRooms”

It’s not the first time an interior design choice by Laurence made headlines, as last year he revamped someone’s home with a wall of hair.

The revamped show found a new home on Channel 4, after being a big hit on the BBC between 1996 and 2004, and is now presented by Anna Richardson from Naked Attraction. Laurence and is also joined by designer duo Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead.

Changing Rooms airs Wednesdays at 8pm on Channel 4 and is available to stream on All4
