John Wick director updates fans on fourth film in franchise

The latest John Wick film will arrive in cinemas early next year, and the movie’s director, Chad Stahelski, has revealed that it will be the longest film so far in the franchise.

John Wick 4 is due to land in cinemas on 24th March 2023, and will continue the story of Keanu Reeves’ iconic assassin character. In a new interview, Stahelski - who has directed all of the films in the series, including the upcoming fourth instalment - told Collider: “It's longer than the other three, but not that long.” 

The stuntman-turned-filmmaker didn’t reveal what the running-time would be, but given that John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum was 131 minutes long, we can assume that the new slice will be no shorter than two hours and twelve minutes in length.

Incidentally, John Wick: Chapter 2 was 122 minutes from start to finish, while the first movie in the series came in at a snappy 101 minutes. 

The director also gave an update about how far along production is, and the good news for fans who are keen to see where the story goes next is that it all seems to be running to schedule. “The movie is essentially done,” Stahelski said. “There's probably another few weeks of tweaking overall, then we lock picture, and we're about music sound and the effects.”

Fans were given a glimpse of what to expect from the next stage of the story when a teaser dropped last month. The official John Wick Twitter account shared a video, saying: “You wanted him back. He’s back. Watch the first sneak peek for #JW4 – in theatres March 2023.”

Also starring in the upcoming movie will be Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson and Bill Skarsgård, along with Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins and Clancy Brown. 

Meanwhile, Ian McShane will return as popular character Winston.

John Wick 4 will be in cinemas on 24th March 2023.
