Will Smith's King Richard voted the most well-received sports movie

King Richard has bagged the title of being the most well-received sports film in a recent survey. The 2021 Academy Award-winning Will Smith film based on tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams and their father, earned 8/10 across platforms including IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

The synopsis reads: "Armed with a clear vision and a brazen, 78-page plan, Richard Williams is determined to write his two daughters, Venus and Serena, into history. Training on tennis courts in Compton, California, Richard shapes the girls' unyielding commitment and keen intuition. Together, the Williams family defies seemingly insurmountable odds and the prevailing expectations laid before them."

The Film Rating Study has revealed that sport is the number one popular genre, while historical drama films and biographical films follow with both categories racking up an average of 7.7/10. 

Horror films were the most harshly reviewed with the average scary movie receiving 5.9/10, while action movies scored around (5.9/10) and thrillers (6/10).

The film has grossed more than $34.3 million at the Box Office and was approved by Serena and Venus. Actor Will Smith admitted having them watch it was 'the worst two hours of my life'.

Serena said of the movie: "King Richard had a perfect ending with Venus on the tennis court. Venus goes in her direction, and I go in my direction. It’s two completely different stories. I had a rough journey.

“I didn’t do well and then I did. It’s a lot of drama. It’s a telenovela.”
