Florence Pugh has landed a big role in the second half of upcoming sci-fi adventure, 'Dune'.
The second trip to the worm riddled desert planet Arrakis already boasts the talents of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem, Zendaya and Josh Brolin.
The film will, like Part 1, be directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Deadline reported last month that the Oscar-nominated Pugh was in line for the role of Princess Irulan Corrino – eldest daughter of Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV – and now it has been confirmed via a production sheet posted to Twitter.
Black Widow star Pugh is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s much anticipated Oppenheimer, which also stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr.
French-Canadian director Villeneuve recently told Empire where he was at with adapting Frank Herbert's 1965 novel of the same name.
"The thing that helps us right now is that it's the first time I've revisited a universe," he said. "So I'm working with the same crew, everybody knows what to do, we know what it will look like. The movie will be more challenging, but we know where we are stepping. When you adapt, you have to make bold choices in order for the things to come to life. And I think that was the best way to introduce this world to a wide audience. Now in the second one, I want to have more flexibility, and it will be possible to go a little bit deeper into some of these details. It's like a chess game."
The Blade Runner 2049 director went on to add: "Some new characters will be introduced in the second part and a decision I made very early on was that this first part would be more about Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit, and his experience of being in contact for the first time with a different culture. Second part, there will be much more Harkonnen stuff."
'Dune: Part Two' arrives in cinemas on October 20th, 2023.
