Robert Pattinson may have only just taken on the role of Batman, but there is already a new Caped Crusader winging his way into town, and it’s none other than Keanu Reeves!

However, whilst Pattinson’s new film, The Batman, is a dark, grungy, three-hour dive into the depths of Gotham City, Keanu Reeves’ version seems somewhat lighter!

The star of The Matrix is lending his vocal skills to a new animated movie called DC League of Super-Pets, and he’s just one of a great voice cast. Starring alongside him will be stand-up comedian and actor Kevin Hart, director and star of A Quiet Place (and Jim from the US Office) John Krasinski, Natasha Lyonne from Russian Doll and Orange is the New Black, and The Rock himself, Dwayne Johnson.

“As a child, my family was taken from me,” Batman says in the new trailer.

“As a puppy, I was taken from my family,” a dog called Ace (played by Hart) says back to him.

As the trailer intensifies, both characters speak of how no-one gets past their "impenetrable defences", before Ace says, “Ah, what the heck?” and jumps onto Batman and starts licking his face! Ace goes on to become the Bat-Hound.

The trailer also shows Krypto (Johnson), the faithful canine companion to Superman (Krasinski). Watch it here:

DC League of Super-Pets sees our heroes work with shelter animals who have special powers, in a bid to rescue the human Justice League from the clutches of Lex Luthor.

Luthor is played by GLOW’s Marc Maron, and the voice cast also features Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon, and Thomas Middleditch from Silicon Valley, as well as Vanessa Bayer, Diego Luna, and Ben Schwartz.

The last time Keanu Reeves appeared with a doggy friend in a film was John Wick. We can only assume (and hope) that things play out a little differently in this new family movie!

DC League of Super-Pets is set to land in UK cinemas on 20th May.
