It features some very familiar characters.
Amazon Prime has treated us with a first full look at the upcoming Lord of the Rings spin-off series, The Rings of Power, and it’s set to be incredible.
Earlier this month, Amazon unveiled some other teaser pictures, including posters of different people wearing the powerful ring but this is the first proper look at the characters in action.
The streaming platform has released several still images from the TV show, which is scheduled to premiere in September, and fans have spotted some familiar faces, including young Galadriel (played by Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo).
In one of the stills, our two favourite Elves can be seen embracing in a magical looking forest, and in another, Galadriel looks hard-faced as she walks away from a burning building wearing a suit of armour and a sword.
Prince Durin IV (played by Owain Arthurs) can also be spotted in another snap along with newcomers Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), Disa the dwarven princess (Sophia Nomvete), and the elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova).
The Rings of Power takes place in Middle-earth, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings trilogy and revolves around the forging of the nineteen rings.
Vanity Fair was the first to release the images, and Showrunner Patrick McKay told the publication what we can expect from the series.
He said: “Rings for the elves, rings for dwarves, rings for men, and then the one ring Sauron used to deceive them all. It's the story of the creation of all those powers, where they came from, and what they did to each of those races.
Much like the previous Lord of The Rings films, McKay added: "It's about friendship.
"It's about brotherhood and underdogs overcoming great darkness."
J.D Payne, another showrunner on the series, said they both “felt like hobbits” next to the pressures of doing the LOTR legacy justice and the enormous scale of the production.
He laughed: “We felt like two very small people in a very big world who had just been entrusted with something that meant so much to so many different people."
"Patrick and I will often look at each other in challenging moments of the show and say, 'I'm glad you're with me, Sam.'"
It’s no wonder they feel the pressure, as the budget for The Rings of Power is expected to be in the range of $100-150 million per season, making it the most expensive television series ever made.
The attention to detail and scale of production was already demonstrated in the making of the title reveal video, which was all live-action.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 2 September 2022.
