With Squid Game being Netflix’s most-watched TV series of all time, fans are obviously keen to find out what will happen when the drama returns for its second season. And now its creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has teased what the future might hold for the show’s protagonist.

If you haven’t seen season one of the violent Korean show yet, firstly, you need to rectify that as soon as possible. Secondly, you should probably stop reading here, as there are season one spoilers ahead.

Whilst it was sad to see some of the contestants drop, we were all relieved when Seong Gi-hun made it through to the end of the games in one piece, after his bloody knife fight with Cho Sang-woo, weren’t we? However, the show’s creator has teased a possible dark plot twist for the protagonist in future episodes.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed that Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-Jae) might have to make a decision between good and evil. He explained that Gi-hun could go down a similar path to the mysterious Front Man who, as we learn in season one, also previously won the game.

The show’s creator added: “It's like Darth Vader. Some end up Jedi and some become Darth Vader, right? I think that maybe Gi-hun will go through a certain critical point where he is put through a test as well.”

Whilst this all sounds very intriguing, don’t expect to find out whether Gi-hun retains his moral compass or decides to move over to the dark side of the Squid Game universe any time soon.

Although season two has definitely been commissioned by Netflix, there is no set release date for it at the moment, and it is very much still in the pre-production stage right now.
