A brand-new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore dropped yesterday (13 December) and reveals some more details about what we can expect from the third film.
The newest adventure follows Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) as he tries to stop the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) from wreaking havoc in the wizarding world.
Unable to do it alone, Dumbledore entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle on a dangerous mission.
Also starring in the film are Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston and Jessica Williams.
The most notable change in the trailer was the replacement of Johnny Depp as the evil wizard Grindelwald by Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen. Depp was asked to resign by Warner Bros in November 2020.
Another thing we can look forward to in the new film is a return to Hogwarts.
The trailer begins with a shot of our beloved castle, and various scenes throughout take place inside its walls- including in the Room of Requirement and, of course, the Great Hall.
The title of the film and scenes in the trailer also imply we will be diving deeper into Dumbledore’s backstory via his complex relationship with Grindelwald and his time as headmaster at Hogwarts before Harry Potter.
At the beginning of the trailer, we see a side-by-side shot of old and young Albus, with the words “If you listen carefully enough, the past whispers to you,” voiced by Jude Law in the background.
Of course, there will also be some new magical beasts to meet with Newt at the helm, and we can expect the same whimsical humour from the first two films.
Directing the film is David Yates, who was also responsible for the first two films and a few of the Harry Potter films. The screenplay was written by Steve Kloves and J.K Rowling, who is also serving as a producer.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will be released in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on 8 April 2022 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
