There’s a new Scream film on its way and, to get us excited, a new poster has been unveiled. And it’s not just any old poster, but it actually features the person who will turn out to be the Ghostface Killer.

The new movie, which is confusingly entitled Scream (the exact same name as the 1996 original), is the fifth in the series, and will be hitting cinema screens in January.

Scream will be set 25 years after the original streak of brutal murders shocked Woodsboro. As if the town hadn’t been through enough, a new killer is set to don the Ghostface mask and target a new group of teenagers.

The film will see the return of stars from the previous instalments in the horror franchise, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox. New cast member this time round include Jenna Ortega from You, and Melissa Barrera from In the Heights.

All of the abovementioned actors appear on an intriguing new poster, which has been shared on social media.

The poster includes 12 of the film’s characters in the shadow of the iconic, and always terrifying, Ghostface mask. The bottom of the poster contains the tagline: “The killer is on this poster.”

Your guess is as good as ours as to who the villain might be, but we can probably rule out Jenna Ortega’s character, Tara Carpenter. The film’s trailer shows a scene which is reminiscent of the famous Drew Barrymore death in the 1996 movie, and suggests that she doesn’t last long.

You can watch the trailer here:

Assuming that Tara Carpenter doesn’t survive the attack we see in the trailer, that leaves 11 potential baddies. Judging by the trailer, we can perhaps rule Sidney out as well. To find out who the killer actually is though, we’ll just have to wait until the new movie lands.

This will be the first Scream film not to be directed by Wes Craven, who died in 2015. It will instead be helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Scream will be in cinemas on January 14th 2022.
