In an example of life imitating art, Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong are set to go head-to-head again, this time for real, as they have both been nominated in the same category for the 2022 Golden Globes.

Their characters, Logan Roy (Cox) and Kendall Roy (Strong) have been locked in a massive battle in season three of Succession, which finished yesterday with a blockbusting final episode.

If you haven’t yet seen the season finale then don’t worry, we aren’t going to share any spoilers here. Suffice to say though, it was one of the all-time great episodes of Jesse Armstrong’s acclaimed dark comedy/drama. Our advice is to catch up as soon as you can before the inevitable spoilers do start appearing all over social media.

Succession leads the way at next year’s Golden Globes, with five nominations. As well as Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong going up against each other for the best performance by an actor in a television series, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook will be up for the best supporting actor and actress award. The duo play Kendall’s siblings, caught in the middle of the family civil war, and forever trying to work out how to turn the situation in their favour.

Succession is also, absolutely deservedly, nominated for best drama, where it will be up against Lupin, The Morning Show, Pose and Squid Game.

The next most nominated shows after Succession are The Morning Show and much-loved football-based sitcom Ted Lasso, which both gained four. Squid Game, Maid, Dopesick, The Great, Hacks, Only Murders In The Building, and Pose all scored three nods.

Meanwhile, Olivia Colman is up for best performance by an actress in a motion picture, for her role in The Lost Daughter. Kate Winslet, will be challenging for best actress in a limited or anthology series for her role in the incredible Mare Of Easttown. Other Brits up for awards include Kenneth Branagh, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Cynthia Erivo.

The 2022 Golden Globes will not be broadcast on TV, after US network NBC dropped the show following backlash over the organisation’s lack of diversity.
