The trailer was premiered at the Game Awards in L.A, and gave fans of the original movie and video game franchise a first look at two iconic characters from the Sonic world, Tails and Knuckles.

Elba voiced the character Knuckles, alongside Ben Schwartz as Sonic The Hedgehog and Colleen O’Shaughnessy as Miles ‘Tails’ Prower. Also heard in the trailer was Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivan “Eggman”, James Marsden as Tom and Tika Sumpter as Maddie

Lurking around the corner, however, is the evil Dr. Robotnik with his new partner Knuckles, and both are in search of an emerald that has the power to build or destroy civilizations.

In a race to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands, Sonic teams up with Tails, and they embark on the journey together.

Director Jeff Fowler and screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller are returning for the sequel, along with producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara and Hitoshi Okuno.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released before the pandemic in 2020 and grossed around $319.7 million worldwide, so there are big expectations for the sequel.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to premiere on 8 April 2022.
