There’s a new film drama coming to Apple TV+, and judging by the trailer, it looks like it’s going to be a must-see movie.
Starring the ever-amazing, multi-award-winning actor and rapper Mahershala Ali, Swan Song is directed by Benjamin Cleary, and also features the absolute legend, Glenn Close.
Set in the near future, Cleary’s feature-length directorial debut sees husband and dad Cameron (Ali) dying from a terminal illness. The narrative focuses on a solution offered to him by his doctor (Close) which will help his family cope after he dies. This involves Cameron cloning himself. The clone will have all of his memories, as well as his subconscious and mannerisms, ensuring that no one would ever know it wasn't actually him. Cameron’s family will therefore still have a husband and father. However, the catch - and it’s a pretty big one - is that he has to keep the cloning, and his condition, a secret from his family.
In the trailer, Glenn Close’s character says: “The second you tell your wife you’re dying, your opportunity to do this is gone.”
Ali’s character starts to question the idea of letting his clone take his place.
Naomie Harris, fresh from the recent James Bond movie, No Time To Die, also stars alongside Awkwafina and Adam Beach.
Ali also serves as a producer on the film, the synopsis of which says: “As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family’s fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined.”
It sounds like we are in for an emotional journey with this one. Have a look at the trailer, which also suggests that it's going to be a visual treat.
Swan Song arrives on Apple TV+ on December 17.
