Inside No.9 co-creator Steve Pemberton has teased he is in talks with Reece Shearsmith about adapting the hit BBC show to a stage play.

The show is currently airing its eight season on BBC Two and it was recently confirmed a ninth is on its way, however this will be the last series (for now).

Speaking at a Q&A (via RadioTimes.com), the Pemberton and Shearsmith shed some light of whether a stage version was now in the works.

Pemberton said: “Yeah, we certainly still talk about it.

“We will definitely be looking into that, but right now our focus is on doing series 9, promoting series 8. But year, don’t be surprised if you see that coming to fruition.”

He added: "We don't have any definite plans, but because they are self-contained, a lot of them happen in real-time, they're small casts, they're all in one location, a lot of them do lend themselves to being adapted for the stage.

"And also, we've got the ability to come up with new stories on stage as well."

Shearsmith also joined the Graham Norton Radio Show with Waitrose last week and spoke about the series coming to an end after nearly 10 years on TV.

He said: "We're going to do series 9 and then we're going to stop because we thought that was a pretty good place to finish. By then, we’ll have done 55 different stories. Would we ever revisit any characters you’ve seen before? We haven’t yet but it is a possibility.”

Reece added he sometimes wished they had made Inside No.9 into an episode series, but an anthology seemed to work out better.

He explained: “I like anthologies. That was always the plan. You don't get a lot of anthologies on TV anymore. There's Black Mirror, but I'm struggling to think of many more.”

Inside No.9 airs every Thursday at 10pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.

Listen to The Graham Norton Radio Show every Saturday AND Sunday from 9:30 am on Virgin Radio or catch up on-demand here.
