English rugby player Courtney Lawes plays for cinch-sponsored Northampton Saints, while former teammate, Welsh fly half Dan Biggar, recently transferred to French side Toulon.
The duo joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch to talk about their time as teammates, as well as playing for England and Wales respectively.
On his former Northampton Saints teammate, Courtney said: “He's a cracking player and we miss him for sure.”
He added: “[Being a] great competitor is probably his biggest strength. I like playing with him, and he doesn't shout much at me, so that’s great.
“But I do find it quite funny when he's ripping into boys for getting bits and bobs wrong.”
Dan interjected: “It was always a quiet word with Courts, as opposed to sort of ripping into him!”
He continued: “Courts is different. Certain boys respond well to a bit of a rocket, and there's probably other boys who you just need to say, ‘Look, we need a bit more from you’, or, ‘We need this’, or whatever. And Courts is one of the guys who generally doesn't make too many errors anyway, so you just let him do his stuff.”
Courtney said: “I've not got many rockets from Biggs, luckily!”
Dan is currently playing for Wales in the Guinness Six Nations, while key England player Courtney is currently recovering from a calf injury.
When talking about their enduring memories from being on a field together, the duo recalled playing in an England against Wales game at Twickenham. “My favourite bit was, it was last year, I was skipping England and Biggs was skipping Wales,” Courtney said. “So that was a big moment for us, for the club, and a really enjoyable game. [It’s a] shame we won't get to do the same thing next time in Cardiff to complete the set, but I think that was a really big game, big moment for the club and both of us as well.”
Dan said: “It was really special. We swapped shirts afterwards as well.”
He added: “That's a nice moment as well, to be able to do things like that with club mates, or former club mates now, but a really special moment.”
The Six Nations continues the weekend of the 25th February. The next Northampton Saints game is on 18th February, against Sale Sharks, on BT Sport.
