Sir Paul McCartney has reportedly been approached to perform at the upcoming coronation of King Charles III.

The icon is the frontrunner to give a special performance when the King officially takes over from the late Queen Elizabeth II in May alongside Her Majesty The Queen Consort, Camilla.

Details about the coronation have been kept largely a secret, but according to reports, there are three days of celebrations being planned out for the big day- which is due to take place on Saturday 6th May 2023.

There will also be a bank holiday to round up the event on Monday 8th May.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Royal organisers are super keen on landing Paul for this historical once-in-a-lifetime performance. The general thought is that having a Beatle singing on King Charles’ big day would seal the deal and other acts can slot around him.

“Paul is the perfect signing, thanks to his extensive back catalogue and huge global appeal.”

It was confirmed a star-studded concert will be held as part of the weekend of celebrations on 7th May earlier this month, which we assume Sir Paul would be a part of. A statement from the palace also promised “global music icons”, orchestras and a diverse “coronation choir” as part of the lineup.

On top of that, there will be a laser and drone light show, but breaking with tradition, there are no plans for beacons to be lit around the country.

The ceremony is also expected to be a shorter, smaller and a much more diverse occasion than Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953.

Last year a huge concert was held outside Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with music from megastar pop performers such as Diana Ross and Sir Rod Stewart.
