Christmas in the eighties was a riot of multi-coloured lights, paper garlands and more tinsel than you could shake a stick at.

As well as chaotic festive decorations, it was also an amazing decade for Christmas music.

On the 8th December 1984 Frankie Goes to Hollywood went to No1 on the UK singles chart with ‘The Power of Love’.

Their first three singles all claimed the number one spot, and to celebrate, Virgin Radio 80s Plus is playing number ones from the decade all day.

We take a look back at the festive number ones from the decade, from singing school children to synth-pop superstars.

1980 - 'There's No One Quite Like Grandma' - St Winifred's School Choir

1981 - 'Don't You Want Me' - The Human League

1982 - 'Save Your Love' - Renee and Renato

1983 - 'Only You' - The Flying Pickets

1984 - 'Do They Know It's Christmas' - Band Aid

1985 - 'Merry Christmas Everyone' - Shakin' Stevens'
