It’s been nearly five years since Take That released their last new music, and now they have revealed they are working on a new album.

The group, currently made up of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, have been working remotely on the follow-up to their 2017 record Wonderland and state it will be released next year.

On top of that, they have plans for a tour in 2024 to promote the new album, which does not have a name yet.

Speaking in an interview for The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, Gary said: “We’ve kind of started already. We’ve learned to work remotely because we live in different parts of the world.

“So I’ll send off a chorus and say, ‘Let me know what you think, lads’, then it will be back a few days later and it’s had a little more written on it.”

He added: “You’ll hear a single just before the summer next year and the album will be released around October. And the following year we’ve put the whole of it aside for a world tour. We haven’t done a world tour for years. So we will take this new record everywhere and there will be a few surprise places that we haven’t toured before.”

The trio have been quite busy this year, with Mark embarking on a solo career, Howard DJing around the world and Gary launching his own brand of wine, Gary Barlow Organic Rose.

So we’re glad they’ve found time to make new music!

Last month, Mark teased the potential of new music when speaking to virginradio.co.uk on the red carpet of the Ivor Novello Awards.

He said: “We’re always talking. There’s nothing of ‘this is what we’re gonna do’ but we all love being in music, and thankfully, we all have been a part of it.

“You know, we’ll get back in the studio soon and start writing, I think we’ll start with writing and just see how that goes. We always give ourselves the ‘see how it goes line’, you know, so we know not to put ourselves under any unnecessary pressure.”

In The Sun interview, Gary added that there are many things in the future for Take That beyond a new album.

He teased: “We’re feeling ambitious and ready for hard work. Music isn’t about repetition, so we always want to feel like we are moving forward and chasing new dreams.

“We’ve done a lot as Take That but we haven’t achieved everything we want to achieve. I believe we have years to go yet.”

This comes as Take That begins production on their new film Greatest Day, which will feature some of their greatest hits and follows the story of five best friends who attend a Take That concert and have the best night of their lives.
