Friends star Courteney Cox says bagging a role in Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing In The Dark music video wasn’t as fun to watch as the final result.

She starred alongside The Boss in his 1984 video, during which an unsuspecting Courteney is invited up on stage to dance.

Despite the seriously cool cameo, the actress has admitted her nerves got the better of her in the audition process.

While speaking to Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show, Courteney was questioned about how she landed that now iconic part.

She told the host: “Bruce Springsteen is such an amazing… God, he’s so incredible. I love that song. I get a little embarrassed because I do feel like when I watch the video, when I see it…I mean, God. Did you see my dance? It was pathetic. I’m not a bad dancer, but that was horrible. I was so nervous.”

Despite her less-than-stellar dancing skills, Courteney still went ahead with the audition, but explained: “I thought I was in the wrong place. I was like, ‘I don’t know what they’re doing but I can’t even bend my leg. This is it.’ I went into on [music video director] Brian De Palma’s office. He put on the music and said, ‘Well, you dance.’ And I thought, ‘Right now? Here? In front of you? Just the two of us?’

It turned out that complete shock was just what the team were after. Courteney added: “I think that’s why I got it because I was like, Okay! I think that’s what they wanted, a fan that just couldn’t believe it.”

Meanwhile in other Boss news, Springsteen became 2021’s highest paid musician after reportedly earning a massive  $590million (£431.3million).

Bruce Springsteen’s impressive income last year was largely down to the sale of his masters and publishing rights in December. The deal with Sony Music was valued at $550million (£402.1million), and represented the largest amount of money a musical artist has ever pulled in for their back-catalogue.

The rest of the $40million that The Boss made last year earned in 2021 mainly came from his Broadway show, and a book and podcast that he put together with none other than Barack Obama.

Details of Springsteen’s earnings are taken from a report in Rolling Stone, which put Jay-Z in second place, having earned $470million (£343.6million), much of which came from the sale of music streaming service TIDAL.

In third place was Paul Simon ($260million), who, like Springsteen, sold his entire catalogue to Sony last year. The deal included the Simon and Garfunkel songs that he wrote.
