The former Oasis legend has been full of praise for the Bad Habits singer, even though he isn’t quite so keen on his music.

Speaking on The Matt Morgan Podcast, Noel Gallagher explained that he was impressed with how Ed Sheeran had stepped up to play a show for The Teenage Cancer Trust.

He said: “I work for The Teenage Cancer Trust and I get to call up the bands and say, ‘Do you want to do it this year?’ To cut a long story short, I spoke to Ed Sheeran and he said, ‘I can’t do it because I’m going to Australia … but I’ll do it next year’”.

Gallagher continued: “I was like, ‘Whatever.’ Anyway, he actually called me back a year later and said, ‘Right, this gig. Let’s do it.’”

The Oasis icon admitted, however, that whilst he likes him as a person, he’s not so fussed about his output. “He’s a good lad,” he said. “But his music… nah!”

However, despite not being a big fan of Sheeran’s songs, Gallagher did tell his old friend Matt Morgan that he was impressed by the way he put together a live show, on his own, using just a guitar and loop pedal. “He came on stage on his own with that pedal, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing,” he explained.

“I was like, ‘What the f***?!'” he continued. “A full tune was coming out of this little fella with his guitar!”

Sheeran will be bringing his impressive stage presence and sound to the BRIT Awards next week, where he will join a live bill that includes Noel Gallagher’s brother. Liam announced on Twitter that he would be playing his latest track. “I’m gonna be performing my new single Everything’s Electric at the Brit awards this year and I’d appreciate it if you stopped what you were doing and tuned in cheers, LG,” he wrote.

The BRITs take place on Tuesday 8th February, and there will also be performances from Sam Fender, 2022 Rising Star winner Holly Humberstone, UK rapper Dave, American artist Doja Cat, and British rapper Little Simz.

Excitingly, Adele has also confirmed she is going to perform, sharing the news on her Instagram page.

You can watch The BRIT Awards 2022 with Mastercard on Tuesday on ITV and ITV Hub.
