On this day in 2016, just after his 69th birthday, one of the all-time musical greats died. However, whilst David Bowie may be gone, he will certainly never be forgotten, and among many tributes to mark what would have been his 75th birthday on 8th January, Madame Tussauds announced that a new figure of David Bowie will be unveiled in March.

The new Bowie waxwork will be the second to appear at the London attraction, and will form part of a new music zone, launching later this year. To help the Madame Tussauds team to create the figure as accurately as possible, they will refer to the precise measurements, hair and skin colour references that they took from his 1983 sitting with their artists.

For the first time, Madame Tussauds have shared images (above) from the sitting, which came during the Let’s Dance era.

Announcing the news on Saturday, Tim Waters, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London said: “David Bowie is one of music’s greats. On what would have been his 75th birthday, the most fitting tribute for Madame Tussauds London to give to our old friend is the creation of a new figure.”

He continued: “His music inspired the masses and, for so many, changed the way they viewed themselves, and we hope remembering him here will ensure that it continues to do so for centuries to come. We felt privileged to work with him back in the ’80s and are just as honoured to work with his estate now to continue the legacy of this truly outstanding music career.”

On Virgin Radio Anthems today (10th January), we remember David Bowie and the music he gave us, on the sixth anniversary of his death.

All through the day you can hear classic Bowie tracks on Virgin Radio Anthems every hour.

Meanwhile, there have been plenty of other David Bowie-related releases and events taking place over the past few days, in tribute to the great man. On Friday, two never-before released mixes of one of his songs dropped.

On the same day, a multi-disc set of his lost album, Toy, called Toy:Box was released.

Elsewhere, a livestream concert took place over the weekend, featuring long-term members of Bowie’s band, as well as appearances from Ricky Gervais, Evan Rachel Wood, Gary Oldman, Def Leppard, and Simon Le Bon and John Taylor.

Don't forget to listen to Virgin Radio Anthems today, as we pay tribute to the legend.
