If your day is in need of a musical boost and something to perk you up, then we’ve got the perfect tune for you. Foo Fighters have just dropped a live video of their cover of the Bee Gees’ 1976 classic, You Should Be Dancing, and it’s an absolute belter!

Actually, that’s not entirely correct. It’s not Foo Fighters that have released the fabulous cover version, but the Dee Gees, which is the American rockers’ disco side-project!

The band previously played You Should Be Dancing for Jo Wiley on BBC Radio 2 earlier this year. When discussing how they came to choose the track, Dave Grohl said, “We’ve been going down to our studio every day... and this one day we had our list of things we were supposed to do and it said, ’Record a cover song for Jo.’ And while we were having this conversation somebody said, ‘Hey, have you seen that Bee Gees documentary?’

“So I was like, ‘Why don’t we just do a Bee Gees song?’ And someone was just like, ’Okay… how do you wanna do it?’ And I said, ’Well, let’s do it like the Bee Gees.’

“We started recording the instrumental track, and then I thought, ‘Okay, well I’m gonna go out and sing it,’ and let me tell you, I have never, ever in my life sung like that, but it was the easiest song I have ever sung in my entire life! I sang the song, and it was like six minutes and I was done. I should have been singing like this for the last 25 years!”

Here's the new video of the song that the band have released.

If you are planning to go and see the Foos when they eventually make it back to the UK, then there’s a chance you might get to hear You Should Be Dancing then, as Dave Grohl and pals included the song in their set at Madison Square Garden in New York last month.

In the meantime, the Dee Gees are dropping an entire disco-inspired album on the second Record Store Day of the year, this Saturday (July 17th). Entitled Hail Satin, the record will feature this track along with three other Bee Gees classics, as well as a version of Andy Gibb’s Shadow Dancing.

There will also be five live versions of tracks from Foo Fighters’ recent album, Medicine At Midnight. These are Making A Fire, Shame Shame, Waiting On A War, No Son Of Mine, and Cloudspotter.
