If you’re a Radiohead fan, you might want to clear your schedule for the next nine minutes, because Thom Yorke has dropped an eerie, reworked version of the band’s breakthrough 1993 hit, Creep, and it’s a long one.
Entitled Creep (Very 2021 Rmx), the track was created for a Japanese fashion show earlier this year, The remix featured in Jun Takahashi’s Tokyo Fashion Week UNDERCOVER Fall/Winter 2021 Women’s collection, entitled Creep Very.
Now, Yorke has released the song, with designer Takahashi providing the artwork for an accompanying video. This new version of Radiohead’s much-loved single, which originally appeared on the Oxford band’s debut album Pablo Honey, sees the musician slow and stretch the track, adding some synths to create an unsettling atmosphere.
If you’ve got nine minutes to spare, you can have a listen to Thom’s reimagining.
Radiohead fans have been discussing the remix on social media. In reference to the fact that the band have been reluctant to play the song live in the past, one commenter joked, “Who knew that all that was needed for Thom to embrace creep was a 100x slowed down version with synths.”
Another said, “This feels very Twin Peaks Black Lodge to me, it’s so creepy and nostalgic and otherworldly and weird.”
Someone else added, “The synths are so good!”
Another poster agreed, saying, “When the synth kicked in I felt transported inside a Stanley Kubrick film, I loved it.”
Remixing his band’s old songs isn’t the only thing that Thom Yorke has been up to lately. In May, he and his bandmate Johnny Greenwood revealed their new project, The Smile, which is a group comprised of Yorke, Greenwood and Sons Of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner. Longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich is also collaborating on this new project. The Smile made their first appearance during Glastonbury Festival’s Live At Worthy Farm livestream.
Whether there will be any new material from Radiohead in the near future remains to be seen. The band’s guitarist, Ed O’Brien, said last year that there would be a new album at some point, but no further details have emerged. So for now, we’ll have to make do with an eerie Creep remix!
