It's no surprise that David Bowie's old Manhattan high-rise pad has sold after less than a month on the market for a hefty price. New York housing site StreetEasy had the impressive property listed for just 27 days and sold for $16.8million (£12.1million) – approximately four times what Bowie bought it for back in the nineties.

The rock star lived there with his wife, model Iman Abdulmajid, after moving to New York in 1999 just before the arrival of his only daughter Lexi while also jetting between London, Sydney and a private island in the Grenadines.

The listing reads: "Located in a premier full service building in Soho/Nolita, is a grand yet intimate condominium residence measuring 5,090 square feet (473 SqMt) with 3 perfectly situated terraces measuring an additional 1,025 square feet.

"The interior was beautifully crafted by one of Europe’s most renowned architect/designers. Direct elevator access to the apartment’s entrance gallery leads to a 56 × 22 foot great room with 3 exposures and a western terrace.

"Eleven foot ceiling heights, a fireplace, adjacent library (w/bath) and open kitchen add to the space’s character and function.

According to the ebook Forever Stardust: David Bowie Across the Universe, ‘Bowie liked dwelling in SoHo/Nolita. He felt at house, semi-anonymous, amongst New Yorkers too cool to behave star-struck at celeb sightings'.

The sought-after property was left to Iman after his 2016 passing from cancer.
