Not content with having her own incredible back-catalogue at her disposal, Pretenders legend Chrissie Hynde is hitting the road this summer to sing songs from one of the all-time greatest songwriters.

The singer will be performing a bunch of Bob Dylan classics when she tours the UK in July and August.

This tour announcement follows last month’s release of Standing In The Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan, an album containing nine cover versions of Hynde’s favourite Dylan numbers, including Tomorrow is a Long Time and Every Grain of Sand. Sky Arts made a film documenting the creation of the album.

The stripped back acoustic tour will take her to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time (at the Queens Hall from 22nd to 25th August), and will also see her play two nights at The Royal Opera House in London on the 29th and 30th July. Support will come from The Rails, and the gigs will be socially distanced.

In a statement, Hynde explained how the idea for the project came about after her Pretenders bandmate, James Walbourne, sent her the new Dylan song, Murder Most Foul, at the start of lockdown. “Listening to that song completely changed everything for me. I was lifted out of this morose mood that I’d been in.”

She added, “Whatever Bob does, he still manages somewhere in there to make you laugh because as much as anything, he’s a comedian. He’s always funny and always has something to say. That’s when I called James and said, ‘Let’s do some Dylan covers,’ and that’s what started this whole thing.”

Not only will Hynde be singing Bob Dylan tunes, but she’ll also be performing “other songs,” as well, so hopefully there will be a few Pretenders’ classics in her set. Sounds like an absolutely brilliant night out to us!

Tickets go on sale here, at midday on Friday 25th June.
