It's a collaboration we didn't know we needed, but it's a collaboration we’re really looking forward to, as it's been announced that Duran Duran will be joined by Blur’s Graham Coxon for a performance at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.
Duran Duran, who made their Billboard chart debut all the way back in April 1981 with Planet Earth/Girls on Film, will be playing at the event as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations.
Excitingly, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor will be premiering a new single on the night. The band will stream their performance from the UK and will be joined by indie hero Graham Coxon.
As well as being a member of Blur, Coxon is also a solo artist of note, and has recently been involved in another collaboration, as part of the new supergroup The Jaded Hearts Club, with the likes of Miles Kane and Matt Bellamy.
Not much is known about the new Duran Duran single, other than it will appear on their upcoming LP, which the band finished during lockdown.
In an interview with Vogue, keyboardist Nick Rhodes said, “Before the pandemic struck, there was a new Duran Duran almost finished. “We were gearing up with a lot of shows, like a lot of other artists, and had to put everything on hold.”
The Billboard Music Awards take place on Sunday 23rd May. The Weeknd, Pink and BTS will be performing, along with the intriguing coming together of Duran Duran and Graham Coxon.
