Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has revealed his plans for the future, which include an exciting sounding “genre hop” project.
Speaking exclusively with virginradio.co.uk on the red carpet of tonight (23th May)’s Ivor Novello Awards, the ‘One Day Like This’ singer revealed that next up on the cards for his band is working on “Elbow 11”, aka their next album.
Speaking about why he loves the album as an art form, Garvey - who is presenting this year’s Ivors Best Album prize - said: “With Elbow, we're an album band. It's a chance to either dive deep on an experiment or a thought, or a chance for artists to contradict themselves and offer different viewpoints. And I feel like a music listening experience should leave you changed.”

Then, he also teased: “There’s something in the pipeline that I can’t talk about yet, that’s quite exciting, but a bit of a genre hop for me.”
When pressed, he added: “It’s in musical theatre,” and that he got involved with the project after having been "approached" for it.
Garvey and Elbow recently made headlines as they were the band to finally successfully play Manchester’s Co-op Live arena’s inaugural show, after several weeks of issues at the venue.
The show was the band’s penultimate 2024 UK tour performance, and Garvey celebrated the occasion by telling fans: “Let’s open this venue properly!
“Everybody who has been working on this building has been so nervous and so excited today,” he later added. “There was already electricity in the air before you lot got in here, and now it’s fully amped up…
“You’ve house-warmed this wonderful new venue,” he finished, just as the band geared up to play their final song of the evening.
