Easy-listening crooner Engelbert Humperdinck has his eyes on Glastonbury as he’s considering a major image overhaul.

The Release Me singer is best known for his smooth ballads, but according to the musician, his new album could be enough to get him on a Glasto stage.

In a new interview with The Sun, Engelbert admitted he’d be up for taking on Worthy Farm with his new tunes, and at 88, that would make him the festival’s oldest performer.

The Last Waltz hit-maker revealed: “I wouldn’t mind doing Glastonbury. I’d have to have the right songs for that show. But my new project may give me that opportunity.

“It’s out of my comfort zone and taking me into a different style, which may lead to Glastonbury.”

In another step outside of his genre, Engelbert also revealed he wants to collaborate with virtual alt-rockers Gorillaz after a missed opportunity back in 2010.

Turns out that Gorillaz musician Damon Albarn originally approached Engelbert for the album Plastic Beach, but that offer was rejected by his then-manager.

“That was a terrible mistake,” Engelbert confessed. "I would’ve jumped at the chance if they’d spoken to me.

“Hopefully, with this new project, I’ll be able to work with these sort of people. I want to record with them.”

Englebert’s last album, All About Love, was released in May 2023, and he’s since jumped on a duet with artist Emin for his Elvis-inspired track Help Me Make It Through the Night, taken from his album, Now or Never, which is out now.

While we have to wait a little bit longer before seeing if Engelbert makes his 2024 Glasto dreams come true, the current organiser Emily Eavis did tease that a “really big American artist” had shown interest in being part of the prestigious Glaso 2024 list.

One of the big rumours pointed to Madonna making her Glastonbury debut, with The Sun reporting in October that Eavis was very keen to get the Queen of Pop on the Pyramid Stage.

An insider explained: “Both teams are keen to make it happen and striking a deal shouldn’t be a problem. Emily was blown away watching Madonna perform in London and is desperate to get her on the Pyramid Stage next year.”

It’s also heavily rumoured that Girls Aloud will stop at Glasto as part of their highly-anticipated reunion tour.
