The Irish singer-songwriter died earlier this week.
Tributes for Sinéad O'Connor have been pouring in since her death on 26th July 2023, and the latest artists to commemorate her are Foo Fighters and Alanis Morissette.
During the band’s set at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan last night (29th July 2023), they brought out Morissette and performed a song from O’Connor’s debut album, The Lion And The Cobra.
Before playing Mandinka, Dave Grohl shared: “We’re singing this song for a reason tonight.
The You Oughta Know singer added: “For a beautiful woman with high intelligence and deep empathy, way ahead of her time, who is no longer with us.
"This is for her.”
Morissette sang the vocals whilst the band played the track, and as their cover came to a close, a large picture of O’Connor appeared on the screen behind them.
Pink, R.E.M’s Michael Stripe, and Tim Burgess from The Charlatans have also paid tribute to the late Irish singer-songwriter this week.
Pink performed a cover of Nothing Compares 2 U during the first show of her U.S tour, and Stripe posted a photo of himself and O’Connor on Instagram with the caption: “There are no words.”
Burgess tweeted: “Sinéad was the true embodiment of a punk spirit.
"She did not compromise and that made her life more of a struggle. Hoping that she has found peace.”
O’Connor was found unresponsive in her home on 26th July 2023, and the news of her death was shared by her family.
In a statement, they said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.
"Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
Before her death, the 56-year-old was working on a new album which she hoped to release “early next year”.
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer told her fans on Twitter that she had plans to go on tour in 2024 and 2025 and visit cities all over the world.
