Lewis Capaldi may be a megastar as a result of his singer-songwriter talents, but back when he was 13, it was Ed Sheeran songs he covered in his mum and dad's living room.

In response to Capaldi's joke on This Morning about how fans should buy Sheeran’s album over his own, Ed Sheeran covered Lewis Capaldi at his AO Arena gig in Manchester last week.

Capaldi then took to Twitter in return on Friday (24th March) to joke about the performance, acknowledging how it’s "always nice to inspire other up and coming singer songwriters."

This back and forth led to Capaldi posting a video on his social media of his younger self covering Small Bump, an Ed Sheeran release from 2011. In the comments, Capaldi described it being as a "full circle moment", with the video being watched over 500,000 times already.

Fans of Capaldi are in for a real treat over the next few months as he ramps up his promo for his upcoming album Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, due to be released in May this year but before that, a Netflix documentary called Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, chronicling his journey to stardom, is due to be released next month.

“This started out as a film about the process of creating the ‘difficult second album’ but ended up being an astonishingly unguarded portrait of the pressures of fame on young shoulders, exploring one of the great conversations of our age – mental health,” said Sam Bridger, head of music film at Pulse Films.

“Such unfiltered access to one of the biggest stars on the planet is testament to the bravery of Lewis and his team who invited us into their world, and the incredible trust and storytelling instincts of director Joe Pearlman, producer Alice Rhodes and the production team.”

Alistair Norbury, BMG president of repertoire and marketing U.K., said: “We are delighted to help bring this project to life with Lewis and of course Pulse and Quickfire Films. As well as a great songwriter and musician, Lewis is a compelling character who has a genuine and deep connection with fans.

"This release further demonstrates our commitment to support artists across every service area from records to publishing, film to books, neighbouring rights and increasingly artist management and live too.”

Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now will be released globally on Netflix on Wednesday 5th April.
