Sometimes it feels like too much effort to make your bed in the morning, and now you have a good reason to avoid.

Making your bed in the morning could actually have a detrimental impact on your health.

Experts on TikTok say that making your bed first thing is actually unhygienic.

If you're squeamish, look away now.

TikTok users are claiming that making your bed in the morning traps dust mites and other bugs that live in our beds.

Not only that, but it traps in moisture which can worsen allergies.

Lexi Natoli posted about it, claiming making your bed creates a "humid" environment for the bugs to thrive in.

"If you keep your bed unmade, your sheets actually get exposed to more sunlight, fresh air and less humidity, so you’ll probably have less bed mites living in your mattress".

Leaving your bed unmade causes the dust mites to "dehydrate and die out".

A Kingston University from 2005 reported that unmade beds have fewer mites.

Researcher Dr Stephen Pretlove said: "We know that mites can only survive by taking in water from the atmosphere using small glands on the outside of their body.

"Something as simple as leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die."

One TikTok wrote: "I’ll never make my bed again".
