Tesla founder Elon Musk has suggested his latest invention, the Cybertruck, could double up as a boat too!

It all sounds very James Bond, but yes, the inventive entrepreneur has seemingly confirmed via his own Twitter account that his latest vehicle will be able to turn into a boat for short journeys across bodies of water.

Elon tweeted: “Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy.

“Needs be able to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel.”

Starbase refers to Elon’s SpaceX spaceport in Texas, while South Padre Island is a resort town just off the south coast of Texas.

It might sound very exciting, but we have a few years to go before we can get our hands on a Cybertruck.

According to reports, production on the angular car doesn’t start until mid-2023, and retail costs could be around $40,000.

According to the Tesla site, the Cybertruck is “built with an exterior shell made for ultimate durability and passenger protection. Starting with a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass.”

This Cybertruck development comes after speculation that Elon would reveal a Tesla human robot this week

The mannequin-shaped robot is known as Tesla Bot or Optimus. Tesla will reportedly unveil it at the ‘AI Day’ on later today (30th September), according to Reuters.

They predict that thousands of the devices could be rolled out at car factories.

Musk previously blamed robotic tech for slowing down production at Tesla, so the move would be a surprise.
