If you’re still not entirely sure exactly what NFTs are or what their purpose is, then we are sorry to advise you that you are officially less tech-savvy than Mr Bean, because the much-loved character is taking his first steps into the Metaverse.
It’s been announced that 3,333 unique Mr Bean NFT collectibles will be available to purchase later this month.
The Mr Bean collection non-fungible tokens (NFTs), will be released in collaboration with Banijay, and will feature the likeness of Rowan Atkinson’s legendary character from Mr Bean: The Animated Series. They can be purchased with the cryptocurrency Ethereum.
The news was announced on Mr Bean’s Twitter page. “@MrBean is taking his first steps into the #Metaverse…” the post read. “We are excited to announce that a collection of 3,333 Mr Bean NFTs will be purchasable from May 25th on the Ethereum blockchain in partnership with @fomo_lab.”
Anyone that buys the Mr Bean NFTs will also get access to rewards, competitions and redeemables, which will include a signed, unpublished hand-drawn still of Mr Bean from the first animated series.
The OG Mr Bean himself has had his say on the character stepping into the metaverse. Rowan Atkinson said in a statement: “Any initiative which not only draws attention to but actually enables access to the fabulous artwork associated with the Mr Bean Animation series, I welcome with open arms.”
The massively popular physical comedy focused on the daily travails of the childlike titular character as he tried to solve various problems, and usually caused chaos on the way. It was first broadcast on ITV in 1990 and ran for 15 episodes, ending in 1995.
Two feature-length films followed, along with the spin-off, Mr Bean: The Animated Series, on which the NFTs are based.
And if you still don’t really understand what a non-fungible token is, it is a piece of digital content linked to the blockchain. They will usually contain references to digital files such as photos, videos, and audio, and they are uniquely identifiable.
