Remember when the world was a simpler place and the hardest decision was how many McSides to have? Well, now the fast-food giant is taking the plunge and heading into the virtual insanity of the metaverse.

Registering for 10 trademarks in the virtual space, Trademark lawyer Josh Gerben told users on Twitter that McDonald’s had recently submitted the trademark applications for ‘operating a virtual restaurant featuring actual and virtual goods’ and ‘operating a virtual restaurant online featuring home delivery’.

Gerben explained: "You are hanging out in the metaverse and get hungry. You don't have to put down your headset. You walk into a McDonald's and place an order. It arrives at your door a little while later."

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) might be on the menu as well for the brand who have filed trademarks for ‘virtual food and beverage products’ as well as ‘downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio and video files and non-fungible tokens’.

The McCafe is also coming along for the virtual ride and one of the brand's applications is to be able to 'offer entertainment services namely, providing online actual and virtual concerts and other virtual events’.

Gerben told Forbes recently: "I think you're going to see every brand that you can think of make these filings within the next 12 months.

"I don't think anyone wants to be the next Blockbuster and just completely ignore a new technology that's coming."

Has anyone else's brain turned to BBQ sauce too?
