Aldi’s new shopping trolley comes with a wine rack

Supermarket chain Aldi are trialling a new Specialbuys trolley to make your shopping experience a little easier, and they’ve read the room perfectly by ensuring that it has a wine rack! 

We’ve all had the experience of over-shopping in a supermarket, and ending up with a really heavy basket which is spilling items out of the side. Or indeed, we’ve gone into a shop for one or two items, decided not to bother with a basket or a trolley and then walked around the shop performing some kind of precarious, Jenga-style balancing act. And, of course, with Christmas coming, sometimes even a regular shopping trolley isn’t big enough.

This is often the case when we walk down the middle aisle in Aldi. So, the supermarket have come up with an extra long version of their trolley. 

With Aldi adding extra Specialbuys sale days each week throughout December, this upgraded trolley would certainly come in handy. 

At present, Specialbuys are in stores on Thursdays and Sundays, but they will also become available on Tuesdays as the Christmas period ramps up. 

But what is so special about the Specialbuys trolley? Well, along with a wine rack to keep your booze purchases secure, it has upgraded, solid rubber wheels which give extra control, and a drop down panel for easy loading of heavier items. It also has a selection of hooks, clips and straps, so none of your larger purchases will fall out. 

That’s not all though. The snazzy new trolley also has an amber flashing light on its front! 

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: "We always hear of people popping in for a loaf of bread and coming out with a kayak or other impromptu Specialbuy purchases – so we thought we’d design a trolley to make this kind of shopping trip even easier.”

This new trolley is currently being trialled, rather than being rolled out everywhere, so you might not see it in your local store just yet.
