Here’s how often you should be cleaning your dishwasher and the best way to do it

Your dishwasher is an invaluable part of your kitchen, but, be honest, do you actually remember to clean the item that does a lot of your cleaning for you?

If, like us, you always forget to clean your dishwasher, then a TikTok User is here to let you know the best way to do it. 

A Florida mum, who uses the handle @jettsetfarmhouuse on the social media platform, has dropped a video for her 3.8 million followers which suggests that, not only do you need to clean the filter more regularly than you do (which, let’s face it, isn’t often), but that you should actually do it at least once a week. 

Actually, the TikTok user says that, if possible, you should clean your dishwasher filter after every use! Madness! 

She says that you should DEFINITELY be cleaning the item at least every two months. 

But how do you clean your dishwasher most effectively?

Well, @jettsetfarmhouse says that the best way to do it is to take the bottom rack out and remove the filter that you can see under the fan, and clean it with warm, soapy water.

She says that while you are cleaning the filter, you should also put “a dishwasher-safe bowl full of vinegar” on the top shelf of your dishwasher and run it on the hottest cycle. 

Meanwhile, give the filter a good clean with dish soap and a brush.

Once you’ve cleaned your filter and the washing cycle is done, take the bowl out of the dishwasher and then sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher. 

Then you need to do another hot cycle, and scrub off any dirt you see in the machine, as well as any grubby stuff that has gathered around the door.

Commenters loved watching this cleaning tip, but many of them admitted they aren’t particularly enthusiastic about undertaking the task. One joked: “Listen ma’am you seem like a nice lady but you need to stop finding things for me to clean”

Another said: “Thanks for the info. I will never do this and accept this about myself.”

Someone else added: “I’m just gonna scroll and pretend I didn't see this.”
