The John Lewis Christmas advert is the highlight of the festive calendar, and this year’s has got people talking.

Featuring a teenage boy and an alien space traveller visitor, it’s been pulling at the heart strings.

Iceland has got in on the act with their own cheeky version of the advert, and released it just hours after the John Lewis version.

They’ve released a parody of the sweet advert, using some of their popular potato snacks.

Skye is the teenage alien in the original ad, and in the Iceland spoof she has been replaced by a Space Raiders potato shape.

The hugely popular crisps had been turned into an oven-baked potato snack similar to a hash brown.

In the original advert, called ‘The Unexpected Guest’, schoolboy Nathan wanders into a forest and finds a crashed UFO.

In the spoof version, instead of finding Skye and her broken spaceship, viewers see a Space Raiders potato shape alien instead.

Nathan continues to introduce his friend to the magic of Christmas, but it’s all with a potato alien instead of the angelic Skye.

Another scene that changed was the family Christmas dinner, as the Space Raider spuds have been added to their plates.

Nathan’s new potato friend worries she’ll become part of the dinner party (on the menu) and so she quickly leaves.

Iceland ends the parody with the caption: "For a Christmas as magical as your first…Eat An Alien."

Fans were left in hysterics by Iceland’s version.

One tweeted: "In tears!!" with laughing emojis.

One laughed: This is madness!”

Another replied "Brilliant."

A spokesperson for Iceland said: “We have an incredible range of Christmas foods this year but couldn’t miss this chance to show off one of our most popular exclusives."

The song for this year’s John Lewis ad is a cover of ‘Together in Electric Dreams’, originally released by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder in 1984.

It’s been performed by Lola Young, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from South London.
