I told you about a new chemical procedure to recover and reuse the gold, and other metals, within old circuit boards, but the good news there was just the process. This good news update is who is doing it and what they’re doing with the gold they recycle.

Say hello to our very own Royal Mint who’ve commissioned and built a large processing plant which is now fully operational for recovering this gold and boasts the capacity to break down 4,000 metric tons of circuit boards every year, amounting to hundreds of kilograms of gold.

Now it gets really cool. They’re not pocketing the gold, as such, they’re minting special gold coins to back shares of an electronically traded gold bullion fund that allows us ethical investors to diversify into gold without any environmentally damaging mining activities taking place. Green gold, if you like. Gold is a great thing to invest in during times of economic turmoil. Also a UN report on electronic waste estimated that 62 million metric tons of old laptops, phones, computers, television sets, and more were thrown out in 2022 alone. We don’t have a goldmine here, we have a gold mountain! (where the way, is this way).

A pawsome story from Canada and the incredibly lucky rescue of a senior pooch, stuck in a river, by a kiwi Youtuber who was on a kayak trip.

Say hello to Ivy, a 14-year-old Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog, who lives in Manitoba. She had somehow got stuck under a heavy log, in the thick mud of a river bank, for over 24 hours. Her head was only just above the water, just a shower of rain would have done it for her.

Her owner had been looking for her, but Ivy’s thick coat was so caked with mud all her strength had been sapped away and thick undergrowth on the bank prevented her dad from seeing her. Enter Tom Hudson, Youtuber from New Zealand, on a kayak trip of a lifetime. He heard a faint whimpering and took a diversion to find poor Ivy struggling to keep her head above water. He secured his kayak, lifted the log, got her on the canoe and to a place he could safely land. He carried the mud covered mutt and followed his nose to the first house he saw and knocked on the door to ask for help. It was Ivy’s home and her dad was so happy to see her. If it hadn’t been for Tom, Ivy would have died and only hundreds of metres from home, which would have been awful because she could probably hear and smell her owner. One bath later and now all is good and Tom & Ivy made the local news!
