Rik Mayall was born on 7th March 1958, meaning that today would have been his 65th birthday. To celebrate the much-missed comedy genius, here are just a few of his funniest TV moments.

Rik sadly died on 9th June 2014, following a sudden heart attack, but he certainly left behind a huge comedy legacy. Indeed, there are too many cracking scenes from the actor, stand-up and writer’s career to list them all, but below are some belters from Blackadder, Bottom, The Young Ones, Filthy Rich and Catflap and The New Statesman.

Blackadder II: Lord Flashheart's Grand Entrance

When Edmund's best man turns up for the wedding, he causes quite a stir. Flash by name, flash by nature. Hooray!

Bottom: Gas Man

“It’s the Gas Man!”

“Yes, I think we’ve established that.”

Turns out reading the meter at Richie and Eddie's flat isn't at all straightforward.

The Young Ones: Rick’s Poem

“Oh, Cliff,

Sometimes it must be difficult not to feel as if,

You really are a Cliff.”

Filthy Rich and Catflap: Oo-Er, Sounds A Bit Rude

This scene also featured Gareth Hale from Hale and Pace, Red Dwarf’s Chris Barrie and Harry Enfield.

Comedy royalty!

The New Statesman: Joining The Opposition?

Tory MP Alan B'Stard defecting to the left? Surely not?

Alan goes to the Labour party offices to offer his services.

Man Down: Christmas Tree

There was no Christmas spirit when it came to Greg Davies’ character’s pesky dad.

“Daniel! What have you done?”

Blackadder Goes Forth: Flying Visit

We couldn’t end the list without another visit from Lord Flashheart, could we?

Woof!

So, there you have it, just a handful of Rik Mayall’s best moments to brighten your day. Apologies if we didn’t include your favourite, but there were just too many to choose from!
