Neighbours star Ryan Moloney has hinted there could be a time jump when the soap returns later this year.

Much to the delight of fans, it was announced the long-running show would be returning despite its shock cancellation and star-studded finale last year.

Sharing the news on the official Neighbours Twitter account, Neighbours stars Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy) and Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi) helped to announce the exciting update, and confirmed the new episodes will be released in “the second half of next year.”

The show has been picked up by Amazon Freevee in the UK and US and will be available for streaming on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. It was also announced thousands of classic episodes from the soap will be available to stream.

Details of the revival have been kept largely a secret, but Moloney (who will be returning as Toadie Rebecchi) has hinted we could be returning to Ramsey Street a few years later than we left it in the finale.

Speaking to the Sunday Post, he said: “We’re meant to start filming in April and it’ll go to air later in the year.

"They said they were thinking of maybe jumping ahead a couple of years but I don’t know.

"I don’t even know who is coming back apart from Alan, Jackie, Stefan and myself. I suppose the exciting thing is while we’re doing the tour, I expect scripts to begin landing in our inboxes, so it’ll be, 'Guess what I read today? I can’t tell you!'."

Alongside Moloney, Steffan Dennis (Paul Robinson), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy) and Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy) will also be back for the reboot.

Speaking about their plans for the soap going forward, Amazon Studios head of content and programming Lauren Anderson told Variety: “We’re going to do everything we have to do – in front of and behind the camera – to make sure that we’re delivering a consistent series.

"We are continuing the show to at least the same level of what audiences have loved for 37 years. The most important thing to us is to make sure that those who love the show already continue to love the show."

Neighbours returns to Amazon Freevee in the UK in 2023.
