Gogglebox’s Kate Bottley has announced that her mother has passed away after she was rushed to hospital earlier this week.

On Monday (23rd January) Kate took to Twitter to ask her fans to pray for mum Margaret who was taken to hospital quite suddenly. Just a few hours later, she announced that her mother had sadly passed away.

Sharing a picture of herself with her mother, the priest wrote in a post: “She really was a smasher. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace and rise in glory.”

She added later: “And we’ll take all the prayers, mass intentions and general positive thoughts we can get, thanks.

(Also FYI, Dry January is cancelled, she bloody loved a Bacardi and Coke).”

Kate received a wave of support and love in the comments from fellow Gogglebox co-stars and celebrities like Dawn French and Claudia Winkleman sending their condolences.

Claudia wrote: “Sending so much love”.

While Dermot O’Leary added: “Sending love my friend x”.

Gogglebox star Izzie Warner also said: “Sending lots of love and strength your way.”

Fans of Kate also commented on the post, with one writing: “Oh Kate I am so very very sorry. Your wonderful relationship shone out from your tweets. You will be in my thoughts tonight x"

Another said: “Sending a big hug. She looks like a good ‘un and must have been so proud of you. XX"

Kate first appeared on Gogglebox in 2014 alongside her husband Graham and soon became a fan favourite on the Channel 4 show. She was approached by the show’s bosses after they spotted her in a video of a wedding flash mob that went viral.

The couple left the show in 2016 and Kate has since moved into radio and has presented BBC’s Songs of Praise, and also appeared on Celebrity MasterChef.
