Ryan Reynolds has hit back with his own hilarious trolling to long-time frenemy Hugh Jackman’s attempts to get him barred from winning an Oscar.

Ryan lent his voice to the track, Good Afternoon, which featured in his Christmas movie Spirited, and it’s gone down so well, that the musical number has now been featured on the Oscars shortlist for Best Song.

Earlier this month, Hugh shared a video to his social media channels, ‘begging’ the Academy to not allow his nomination to go through, saying an Oscar nomination for his Deadpool co-star would “make the next year of my life insufferable.”

Now, Ryan has responded with his own hilarious video, in which he claims he’s taking the high road.

In the clip, Ryan said: “You know, last week Hugh Jackman lovingly asked the Academy to not vote for our song 'Good Afternoon' in the Best Song category, and well, I'm not going to stoop to that level. I'm going to rise to the occasion and rise above it all and say right now that I loved Hugh's performance in The Son. There's zero sarcasm here. No wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

"Hugh's performance is literally one of the best of his entire career, and his career is very impressive already. He's already nominated for a Golden Globe. So I humbly submit Hugh for your consideration. Okay."

The Hollywood star then closed his laptop in an attempt to stop recording, but can be heard saying: “Wolverine and Deadpool? Who's he kiddin'? Not on your life, Chappie.”

The ending of the video is a reference to Hugh seemingly revealing the title of their upcoming Marvel movie Deadpool 3 in his video. The comic book movie will see Ryan return as the titular anti-hero, while Hugh will reprise his role as Wolverine.

The “Chappie” is also a fun nod to Hugh’s 2015 sci-fi movie of the same name.

It doesn't seem to be the end of things though, as Hugh retweeted the video, and captioned his post with: "When @VancityReynolds goes high. I go higher."

Deadpool 3 is slated for release in September 2024.
