Heart warming news from Belgium as an entire village become millionaires overnight thanks to the Euro Millions lottery!

I have a strong feeling that up until last week the place with the most millionaires per capita was  Monaco. Not any more! Say hello to the tiny village of Olmen, which is near Antwerp, and to the brilliant shopkeeper, Wim Van Broekhoven, who organises this local syndicate. Because they won the jackpot, 165 Olmen residents will split an unbelievable $150 million dollars won in the Euromillions lottery. That’s almost a million dollars each!

One lucky winner already knows what they want to do: fulfil a lifelong bucket list tick to spend a few months in America, and hike the Grand Canyon. Another said they will split it among 3 children and many grandchildren. An awesome result for what sounds like an awesome bunch of neighbours!

Good news from Denmark and a new study into the potato that shows it’s not the diabetes bad guy we’ve been led to believe.

Say hello to spuds, boiled, mashed, roasted, even chips, and the latest study that says we’re fine to eat them, there’s zero link between them and diabetes. Now they’ve looked into this more robustly, it turns out that people who eat more potatoes also eat more butter, more dairy, more red meat and more fizzy drinks, the real bad guys in the fight against things like diabetes and heart disease. It was the bad fats used to cook crisps, or chips, or mash which skewed the data and made it look like our beloved spuds were the culprits. In fact if you cook your spuds with olive oil, or avoid fats, then there is no link to diabetes or heart disease and you can enjoy potatoes worry free. A portion of spuds roasted in a little olive oil, with their skins with a pinch of salt and rosemary will give you lots of fibre and more potassium than a banana! Hurrah!!
