Strictly Come Dancing finalists confirmed as latest celebrity is eliminated

We’re just a few days away from learning who will win the Glitterball trophy this year, after another celebrity was ousted from the competition in the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final. 

To avoid a potential clash with England’s World Cup quarter-final match against France, the Strictly semi took place a day later than usual, with the live show taking place on Sunday 11th December, and the results show airing last night, Monday 12th December.

Following Sunday’s show, Two Pints of Lager star Will Mellor found himself in the dance-off against singer Fleur East. With it being double dances week, all couples had performed two routines, so both pairs chose their favourite for the dreaded dance-off.

Will and his professional partner Nancy Xu picked their couples’ choice to a 90s Madchester medley, while Fleur and her pro partner Vito Coppola did their Charleston to Tu Vuo’ Fa L’Americano by Fiorello.

And when it came to deciding who would go through to the final. Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Fleur and Vito, as did Motsi Mabuse. 

However, Anton Du Beke opted to save Will and Nancy, so the decision went to head judge Shirley Ballas. “Both couples were outstanding and not only today, but through the series," she said.

"I have loved both of them, this is by far, even for me, Craig, the most difficult decision I feel I have had to make. Based on micro details, I have decided to save Fleur and Vito."

All of which means the end of the road for Will and Nancy. Speaking to the show’s co-host Tess Daly, the Corrie actor said: “I have to thank you all for giving me this chance to put a smile on my mum's face, she deserves it, and to give me this chance.”

He continued: “I didn’t think I’d be able to get anywhere near this and I am so proud of what we have achieved, but also everybody who has voted for me, who has supported me, the messages I’ve had from my local community and children. Thank you all so much, we really, really appreciated every bit."

A tearful Nancy said: "We’ve had ever such an amazing journey together… I really wish I could make more memories with you and your family.”

Will responded: “I wouldn’t be on this dance floor without you. I wouldn’t have got past week one.”

The final will see Fleur, Helen Skelton, Hamza Yassin and Molly Rainford battle it out for the sought-after Glitterball.

But who will triumph?

The Strictly Come Dancing final airs on Saturday December 17th at 7.05pm on BBC One.
