The dancing world is about to be a lot less colourful as lord of the dance, Len Goodman, has announced his retirement from Dancing With The Stars.

The former Strictly Come Dancing head judge has revealed he is stepping down from his role after more than 15 years during Monday’s semi-final episode of DWTS in order to spend more time with his loved ones in the UK.

The much-loved judge, who received a standing ovation from the audience members, told fans: “Whilst we’re all getting excited and looking forward so much to the finale next week, it will also be with a touch of sadness, as this will be my last season judging on Dancing With The Stars.

“I’ve been with the show since it started in 2005 and it has been a huge pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful show.

“But I have decided I’d like to spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain.”

He added: “I cannot thank you enough, the Dancing With The Stars family, it’s been such a wonderful experience for me and I’m looking forward so much to next week’s finale, I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”

Host Tyra Banks told the 'living legend': “You’ve inspired generations of dancers around the globe through your passion, through your expertise and your laser-focused eye."

Twitter users commented: "I've watched the show since the beginning. I can't imagine Dancing With The Stars without Len. I thank him for making the show special and wish him well."

"Been watching DWTS from the very beginning and we will miss our GRUMPY LEN very much! Thank you for so many wonderful years and memories! Wish him all the best and good health!" wrote a second viewer.

A third added: "Congratulations Len and he is definitely a a legend."

The former head judge of BBC’s Strictly starred on the show in 2004 alongside Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood, and Arlene Phillips, followed by Alesha Dixon and Darcey Bussell.

After his final appearance in the 2016 Christmas Day Special, the previous British Championships winner was replaced as head judge by Shirley Ballas.
