The Great British Bake Off is set to reach its climax, following a semi-final which revealed the three contestants who will take part in the final next Tuesday (15th November).
Last night (8th November), Patisserie Week saw the remaining four bakers - Syabira, Abdul, Janusz and Sandro - battling it out for a place in the final.
For the Signature Challenge, the bakers were tasked with making six identical mini charlottes filled with mousse. Sandro’s efforts didn’t really impress the judges, while Paul Hollywood liked the flavours in Abdul’s efforts.
Onto the Technical challenge, which required the four hopefuls to make identical chocolate hazelnut and raspberry vertical tarts. Sandro had a bit of a nightmare, coming last, and Janusz was third. Abdul finished second, while Syabira's were the best.
The Showstopper challenge saw the bakers make Krokan. What is Krokan? Well, the traditional Swedish celebration cake is made from biscuits, and decorated with marzipan and icing sugar.
Janusz's colourful effort paid tribute to Brighton Pride, Sandro’s clock-themed creation celebrated his African heritage, Abdul shot into space with his rocket, and Syabira’s incredibly ambitious effort saw her make a DNA helix.

Whilst Syabira’s Krokan was aesthetically amazing, it didn’t taste quite as great as it looked, meaning that, for the first time in this series, Abdul was awarded Star Baker.
Regarding who was going to leave the tent, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith had to choose between Sandro and Janusz, and it was the latter who ended up missing out on the final.
The official Bake Off Twitter account posted a letter that Janusz wrote following his elimination from the competition. In it, he expressed that being on the show was “the best experience” of his life.
He wrote: "Being the first Polish contestant, I felt I had a lot to prove and I hope you enjoyed seeing me bring some Polish flare to the tent.”

Making reference to when he misspoke earlier in the series, he signed off: “Your star caker on a bake week, Janusz x”.
And so, Syabira, Abdul and Sandro move on to next week’s final, so see who will be crowned the ultimate Star Baker of 2022.
The Great British Bake Off final 2022 will air on Tuesday 15th November on Channel 4.
