Dancing On Ice star Michelle Heaton has provided quite the update as training gets underway for the 2023 series.

The former Liberty X singer took to Instagram to share how rehearsals are going, and while she insisted she’s “loving” life on the ice, it’s been made very tricky with an ongoing eye infection, leaving her with only one peeper to work with.

In the video shared to her Instagram Stories on Thursday (20th October), Michelle explained: “I’m feeling a little bit under the weather. I’ve had this eye infection for six, seven days and it’s killing me, so I’ve been learning to skate with one eye, which has been really interesting, but still managing.”

After learning some “backwards skating with backwards crossovers,” Michelle said she’s learning “tentatively and not very fast” but she’s still “managing to do it with one eye.”

“I’m absolutely loving, loving the sessions on the ice with my coach,” the singer continued, before sharing that she took quite the tumble during the session too.

She added: “I had an epic fall today, I definitely winded myself and my coccyx is not very happy with me, but hey ho. And now I’m back home before I get the kids and I’m looking at my script.”

The script in question was the one for her upcoming performance in Christmas panto, Beauty and the Beast, which will be at The Spotlight in Hertfordshire.

Michelle has been hard at work perfecting the moves ahead of the new series set to hit ITV in January.

She announced the news while on Lorraine earlier this month, and said: "I’m so excited - I can’t believe it. Me and the kids are such huge fans of the show in general.

“I’ve always wanted to do it but I know I would never have been able to complete anything because of the way I was 18 months ago, so I’m really truly grateful that I’ve got it this year when I’m a lot stronger.”

Michelle knows a thing or two about reality telly, having previously appeared on Come Dine With Me, You’re A Star and Celebrity Big Brother.

Her fellow Liberty X-er Jessica Taylor took part in Dancing On Ice in 2009, coming in third place, and when speaking about the band’s support, Michelle told Lorraine: “They were super excited for me. She [Jessica Taylor] had such a good time on the show and she said “just be me.”‘

Michelle will join the likes of The Wanted’s Siva Kaneswaran, actress Carley Stenson, Patsy Palmer, football bruiser John Fashanu, Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, olympic gymnast Nile Wilson, Coronation Street’s Mollie Gallagher, Drag Queen and TV personality The Vivienne, the living icon Joey Essex and comedian Darren Harriott in the skating competition.

Dancing On Ice is expected to return to ITV in January 2023.
