Here's your first look of Mindy Kaling as Velma in new trailer

Fans have had their first look at Velma in the new HBO Max Scooby Doo series.

Mindy Kaling stars as the titular role of Velma Dinkley in the "adult animated comedy".

It will provide the origin story for the much-loved character.

HBO Max says: “Velma is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and under appreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang.

"This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.”

Velma is shown at home writing a letter to HBO Max about a new Judy Jetson series.

She says: “Dear HBO Max. I just learned you intend to make a genre-bending comedic origin story of Judy Jetson.

“When I heard this new version of Judy Jetson wouldn't be ‘boy crazy’ the only word I had to describe my disgust is ‘Jinkies’.

“If there's one thing the Internet agrees on, it's that you should never change anything ever! I hope you die! Sincerely, Velma."

Velma signs off her letter, sighing “Well, at least Judy's still white.”

It's a tongue-in-cheek jab at the backlash from fans when they found out Kaling was taking on the role, and Velma is now of South Asian heritage.

A withheld number then calls Velma, asking if she likes solving mysteries.

“Uh, yeah, but actually I'm much more three-dimensional than that,” Velma says.

The voice then tells her they are in her house.

Velma continues: “A serial killer calling from inside my house? Yes! That's a classic! And that's my point. Why change anything when the classics all still work, right?”

“Wait, you're inside my house?” she adds.

The show will be released in 2023.

Joining Kaling will be some huge names, including Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Weird Al Yankovic, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ming-Na Wen, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysak and NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns.
