A Disney film is reportedly in the works featuring the beloved Epcot mascot, Figment.

The small purple dragon serves as the mascot for the theme park’s Imagination Pavilion in Orlando and was created by Walt Disney Imagineers Tony Baxter and Steve Kirk back in 1983 when the Journey Into Imagination ride opened at Epcot.

Figment is supposed to represent the imagination process, and as reported by Deadline, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit have been brought onboard to write the movie.

He might be one of Disney’s lesser-known characters, but Figment does have a devoted fanbase that have come out in force to protest after various attempts to remove the ride and decrease his presence in the theme park over the years.

This has ensured the character is still the star of the latest version of the ride, Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

It won’t be his first time featuring in a movie either, as Figment made cameo appearances in Inside Out (2015) and Toy Story 4 (2019).

According to Deadline, the film is being made by Seth Rogen’s production company Point Grey, which he started with partners Evan Goldberg and James Waver.

The company has released a number of TV and film projects recently, including Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, Amazon’s The Boys, as well as The Interview, The Disaster Artist and This Is The End.

In other Disney news, it was confirmed on Tuesday (27th September) that Hugh Jackman would be reprising his role as Wolverine for the upcoming Deadpool 3.

Star of the superhero films Ryan Reynolds, confirmed the news in a video of the two posted to social media and revealed a release date has been set for 6th September 2024.

Jackman played the character in nine films within the X-Men franchise and supposedly retired from playing him in the 2017 movie Logan.

For several years, the rights to the X-Men franchise have been owned by Fox, so characters have never crossed over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is now produced by Disney. However, Fox was recently acquired by Disney in 2019 and fans have since speculated whether the X-Men could now be making an appearance in Marvel movies.
