This Morning celebrated a big milestone with fan-favourite host Phillip Schofield on Tuesday (6th September).

Phil was joined, as always, with Holly Willoughby on the ITV daytime staple, and while introducing the programme, Holly made sure to pay homage to her long-time co-host.

She started by saying: “We couldn't start today's show without mentioning something very special. Actually, it really is a huge achievement.”

The silver-haired telly icon then admitted he didn’t even realise the anniversary had rolled around, before Holly explained how the team wanted to do something special.

She explained: “Yesterday, we were doing our meeting, it's always at the end of the show and it's like, 'What's coming on tomorrow's show' and the producers went, 'Did you know, it's 20 years exactly since Phil officially started presenting on This Morning? 20 years!”

“It’s gone like that” Phil replied, snapping his fingers together.

Of course, no telly anniversary can be celebrated without a look back through the years, and viewers were treated to a throwback clip of Phil’s very first day on the This Morning set.

In the segment, Phil was co-hosting with former presenter Fern Britton during an I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! segment, during which a young Phil admitted he was “chuffed” to be there.

After watching the vintage footage, Phil exclaimed: “Oh my god, I don't think I've ever seen that! That must have been the first series of I'm a Celeb… that's mad.”

“I was nervy as well. Fern was so lovely looking after me” he continued, to which Holly replied: “That's what you were like with me on my first day.”

Holly and Phil have made their way back to the famous This Morning sofa this week following their summer break, during which the likes of Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary stood in.

Recently, Holly sent her love and support to co-star Alison following her nomination for a National Television Award.

Alison will go against the likes of 20-time winners Ant and Dec, Bradley Walsh and Virgin Radio’s own Graham Norton in the TV presenter category when the ceremony takes place on 15th September.

Holly’s lack of nomination alongside Phil was seen as snub by some telly fans, but the former Celebrity Juice panellist showed that there’s absolutely no animosity on the ITV set.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Holly reshared a video of Alison working out, and wrote: “There is only one @alisonhammond55…come on babe!!!! This year is your year…Congratulations…love you!!! #NTA”
