Pinocchio: Tom Hanks is Geppetto in new trailer for Robert Zemeckis film

There’s a new live-action adaptation of Pinocchio on its way, and it stars none other than Hollywood royalty Tom Hanks. 

If that isn’t enough to get you excited, then the movie is written and directed by Robert Zemeckis, who was not only responsible for the incredible Back to the Future trilogy, but has also teamed up with Hanks previously in The Polar Express and Castaway.

And we don’t have too long to wait until we can see the new version of Pinocchio, as the film will stream as one of the highlights of the upcoming Disney+ Day on September 8th.

As if you needed telling, the narrative will focus on the story of a wooden puppet crafted by the lonely woodcarver Geppetto, who magically comes to life. Dreaming of becoming a real boy, Pinnochio sets off on a quest to do so, getting himself in all manner of adventures and scrapes along the way. 

In the new trailer, we see the animated titular character come to life, scaring the heck out of Hanks’ Geppetto. Later, after the puppet has failed to return home, we see Hanks’ character searching for him. 

“You will always be my real boy,” Geppetto says at the end of the clip.

The new adaptation was written by Zemeckis with Chris Weitz, and will feature the voices of Cynthia Erivo, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lorraine Bracco and Luke Evans. The story is based on Walt Disney's 1940 animated film of the same name, which was itself based on the Italian book, The Adventures of Pinocchio, written by Carlo Collodi in 1883.

The film makes up part of a host of content that will arrive on 8th September for Disney+ Day. A brand new Star Wars documentary, called Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return, will air, as well as singalong versions of Frozen. 

The streaming platform will also show Thor: Love and Thunder, and a documentary about the making of the film.

Pinocchio arrives on Disney+ worldwide on 8th September.
